Outcomes-based contracting is a big shift for the edtech world

in News 1 min read

In a new opinion piece for District Administration, Coursemojo co-founder and co-CEO Dacia Toll writes that edtech is facing an overdue reckoning, and that outcomes based contracting is the most promising path forward. Drawing on more than 20 years as a teacher, principal, and school system leader, Toll describes how tying provider payment to student outcomes changes the conversation from “What can this tool do?” to “Is this tool actually helping us achieve our goals?” The piece cites the Center for Outcomes Based Contracting’s guidance that at least 40% of provider payment should be contingent on student outcomes, and highlights the Center’s Jasmine Walker on how these agreements build cross-functional collaboration across curriculum, procurement, finance, and school leadership teams.
